What is AEDP?

A different way to experience emotion, care, and connection.

AEDP stands for Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy. It works with emotions and the relationship between client and therapist, making room for new experiences of being understood and supported.

AEDP uses the phrase ‘undoing aloneness’ to describe approaching difficult emotional experience with an engaged therapist alongside you. Care and connection are active parts of the work.

We can notice the ways you protect yourself and explore feelings at a manageable pace. The aim is to make room for new emotional and relational experiences, not just explanations of what has happened.

Making room for what you feel

You might notice yourself overthinking, laughing, or going numb just as a feeling begins to surface. Those responses deserve curiosity and respect. Together, we can explore what they protect and whether there’s room to experience the feeling with support.

The Change Triangle® offers a helpful way to understand this process. It distinguishes core emotions, such as sadness, anger, fear, and joy; inhibitory emotions, such as anxiety, shame, and guilt; and defenses, the ways we protect ourselves from feelings that seem overwhelming or risky.

Emotions are part of how we respond to the world and recognize what matters to us. In our work, we may slow down to notice a feeling, how it shows up in your body, and what it’s like to share it with me. We’ll find a pace that feels manageable together.
